Embracing Change and Tools for Progress

Sep 6, 2024

Nikki Minor

As we step into plans for the changing seasons🍁, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the tools we use and how they shape our approach to new opportunities. Understanding the strengths and limitations of our tools enables us to protect what matters most and be ready to act when the time comes. Just as the seasons shift, upcoming changes in policies and practices may call for reviews and adjustments.

Take a look at a few of the upcoming changes we’ve captured with the help of AI.  Share your thoughts and let us know if you’d like to get more information on the policy changes that impact community projects and opportunities for members across the country. Keep your eyes open for what's coming up and changing in October 2024.

Five (5)Five Key Policy Changes Taking Effect on October 1, 2024

1. Revised Uniform Grants Guidance: The Biden-Harris administration will implement significant changes to federal grant programs to make them more accessible and transparent. This includes reducing compliance burdens, simplifying grant application processes, and improving access for underserved communities. Agencies will be required to issue clearer Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs), and the updates will help grant recipients focus more on program outcomes rather than administrative tasks【Source】.

2. Navy Federal Credit Union Credit Card Terms: Navy Federal will be changing the terms of their credit card agreements. This includes updates on how interest is calculated using the daily balance method, changes in fees, and clarifications on authorized users. Customers have the right to reject the changes, although this will close their accounts【Source】.

3. California Worker Protections for AI: California will introduce new labor laws that regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in hiring and employment. Employers will need to ensure that AI tools do not violate anti-discrimination laws and provide transparency in how AI tools are used【Source】.

4. Medicare Prescription Drug Pricing Reform: As part of the Inflation Reduction Act, new policies will take effect to lower prescription drug prices for Medicare recipients. This includes the negotiation of prices for certain high-cost medications and limits on out-of-pocket costs for insulin.

5. Changes to U.S. Copyright Law: Modifications to U.S. copyright law will take effect to streamline certain procedures and provide clearer guidelines for content creators, particularly in the digital space, to protect their work more effectively【Source】.

These updates reflect shifts in financial, healthcare, labor, and intellectual property policies that will impact a wide range of stakeholders.  Pay attention, stay connected to collaboration groups that keep your interests up front, and share your feedback.  The more tools used to share progressive feedback from you the more of a resource to changes in the community you can reveal, so be aware of the examples being set.

When we or our tools face limitations, it’s not always a sign of a problem—often, it’s an invitation to explore new methods and innovative solutions. While breaking old habits can be challenging, it’s through navigating frustrations that true growth happens. With progress in motion, the path forward becomes clearer.
